Room Full Of Sisters by Mona Lake Jones A room full of sisters like jewels in a crown Vanilla, Cinnamon and Dark Chocolate Brown Now picture yourself in the mist of this glory As I describe the sisters who are a part of this story….. In 1994, my dear friend Melina Carnicelli, was so inspired by this poem that she gathered a group of friends together for a luncheon to celebrate the sisterhood of All Women. That year Melina expected a group of about 20 but over 90 women showed up. Melina knew that she had stumbled onto something special. The Room Full of Sisters became an annual event in Auburn, New York. Melina says that through Room Full of Sisters she creates “a container to hold all of who we are.” This is exactly what happens at this annual luncheon! I have had the honor of celebrating the joys of sisterhood with thousands of women over the past 10 years that I have participated. The day includes guest speakers, book signings, shopping, networking and celebration. Mona Lake Jones often attends to read the poem that inspired this event and my dear sisters in Spirit, the Shenandoah Trio offer the gift of music. For me, A Room Full of Sisters has also become a special day of sharing with my daughter who has attended with me each year since she was seven! This year I overheard several people tell her that they recognized her as the host of Our Voice Now Humanity’s Team radio. I smiled knowing that it is events like these that inspired her to...
by connie | May 5, 2013 | The Life You Desire
I believe there are three key elements to successfully manifesting the life you desire. I’ve written about this before in a guest post on Dr. Rob Kiltz’s great blog mind-body-smile :0 but I would like to take a moment today to focus on one of the key elements: YOUR SMILE. Last summer I went out with a group of friends. There was a man with us whom I met for the first time that night. He smiled the entire night. Every time I looked at him he was smiling. He smiled when he spoke about his work. He smiled when he listened to other people speak. He simply smiled, taking in every moment with pure joy. It has been nearly a year since that night. As I write this I realize that I have not seen him since then. Yet I consider him a friend simply because his smile reflected a joy for life that I resonated so deeply with. Another example of the power of a smile is found in His Holiness, The Dalai Lama. Spending a couple days in his presence last fall, I have to say that one of the most powerful gift he offers the world is the pure healing joy of his smile and his laughter. Over the course of the two days, he said a lot of profound and beautiful words but the greatest impact he had was when he simply smiled. When that smile turned to laughter the power of his joy penetrated even more deeply into the hearts of his listeners. So what does the power of a smile have to do...

Thank you to Thrive CNY, the magazine with “A healthy spin on life” for publishing my article “April Showers Bring May Flowers” in the April 2013 edition. The following post is an excerpt from that article (see pages 24-25). You can find the magazine on news stands in CNY or view it online here. It’s April…and not a moment too soon! Open the windows. Let the air flow in. Sunlight is calling us outside for bike rides and walks. We feel the stirring desire to clean out closets. This instinctual urge for an April cleanse ties us into nature at the deepest level. I bet the animals waking from their winter hibernation get the same urges. But we are human. There is more to us than the desire for a clean home. We feel a sense of hope for what is to come and we long to prepare the space to welcome our new adventures. This year as you begin your spring-cleaning, consider taking this process to a deeper level by cleansing your emotional body as well. Emotional health is the well-spring to a happy life. Here are five simple ideas to get you started: Clean out your closet: When you throw out the stained sweater or outdated tool from your closet, imagine that you are also releasing suppressed feelings, old resentments and emotional wounds that you have held on to for too long. Take a bath: In poetry, water is often a metaphor for emotion. In life, water often acts as a conduit for emotional release. Take time out of your busy schedule and fill your bath tub. Let...

It’s been just over a month now since the launch of Sheila Applegate’s book: Enchanted One, The Portal to Love. As someone married to an author, I know first-hand just how time consuming and sometimes all-consuming writing and promoting a book can be. It can be exhausting. But I also know that for an author, especially a first-time author, publishing a book is exhilarating, and for many, the fulfillment of a lifetime dream. Think about it for a minute. Browse the shelves of a library or your local bookstore, or even Amazon.com, and you’re looking at exceptional efforts made by extraordinary individuals, each with a passion to share his or her message with the world. Not everyone, including myself, has the inclination or ambition to make such a mark on the world. For those of us who don’t, unless you know an author personally, it is very easy to take their efforts for granted. A book, just one book, represents hours, months, sometimes years of toil and trouble. While some consider it a labor of love, others may consider their book the worst “assignment” ever. I know; I’m married to an author. Remember? So what can we as readers do to support an author? Our favorite author? If you’re like me, and if you’re reading this post, I’m assuming you have an interest in doing so. And if you’re reading THIS post because you’re interested in supporting Sheila Applegate and because you believe in her message, then I’ll use her as an example. Here is what you can do to help spread your enthusiasm for Sheila’s work (or any...
